We had an, all too brief, stay in early September and were extremely impressed with the comfort of our room, it's amenities, the peace and quiet, and the fabulous view of Loch Broom. The breakfast choices were excellent and the different options we had each day were first class. Maureen and Michael were great hosts and nothing was too much trouble. We hope to be able to stay again.

Fantastic guest house with attention to detail. Exceptionally clean and comfortable. Michael and Maureen make you feel very welcome and at home. The two best things are the breakfasts and the View. The quality, freshness and variety was spot on.. all home made or Locally sourced. However the view is the best, either from the very relaxing lounge or beautiful garden. Will definitely return.. thank you..

Thank you for your review..We're sorry that your visit didn't live up to your expectations. We rely on guests to let us knowif there is anything that they aren't happy with.It is unfortunate that you left it until the end of your visit, as you were checking out, to inform us about the headboard. It was a simple 2 minute fix and could have easily been done while you were here if you had let us know.

We were a group 4. It was our first trip to Ullapool and this area of the Highlands. We were greeted by Maureen and Michael upon our arrival. The accommodations offered by The Shelling GuestHouse were more than we expected. The rooms were very comfortable. The setting on the water is fabulous. Breakfast choices were numerous and prepared to order. Our compliments to the chef for outstanding fare. Michael and Maureen had many suggestions for things to do during our stay. Unfortunately we only had 2 nights at the Shelling. We could have stayed at least 2 more nights. Highly recommended for a very relaxing holiday.

Thank you to Maureen and Michael for a lovely stay. Thank you too for taking a late 1 night only booking. We thoroughly loved your beautiful home with all those glorious view.Sitting out in the garden enjoying the grazing boxes you put together for us was simply fantastic - The food and the views! We have so much food leftover we will eat it again on our travels today!Harry thought the kedgeree he had at breakfast made for his best ever breakfast.Thank you too for allowing our dogs to come and join us. They’re part of our holiday so it’s always great when we can take dogs inside at b&b’s. Apart from barking at your neighbours cat I was pleased they were well behaved! They’re getting quite accustomed to staying at various places now and see it all as a home from home! There’s only one problem - we’re not staying long enough!! Thank you again for a lovelystay.(I meant to sign your visitor book but I forgot) 😞

Also, breakfast was delicious with fresh cooked dishes such as my favorite, Eggs Royale with locally caught and smoked Salmon, fresh choclat au pain and other pastries, and home-made muesli mix. Our stay was truly a pleasure, and we look forward to staying here again.

Maureen and Michael are very friendly hosts and we felt very much at ease in their guesthouse. You could spend hours in the cosy guest lounge and admire the marvellous view of Loch Broom, but we chose to follow Michael‘s advice and went up Ullapool Hill. For breakfast we got porridge, self-made fruit compot, Greek yoghurt, home-made granola, fresh fruit as starters, and then an excellent cooked breakfast. You should try the smoked salmon. The rooms and the modern bathrooms were immaculate. Should we be in Ullapool again, we would definitely try to stay there. So, many thangs to Maureen and Michael for the very warm welcome!

We stayed here for 3 nights. Loved Ullapool and the surrounding area. Sheiling Guesthouse is in the perfect position. Close enough to the centre of Ullapool to walk to restaurants, but very peaceful and wonderful views of the loch from the comfortable lounge. We stayed in several B&Bs on this trip around Scotland, but this was definitely the best breakfast we had. The granola was delicious and we loved how it, and the fruit and yoghurt, was presented in mini kilner jars. The smoked salmon was the best I’ve ever had! Probably best to book restaurants in advance as they get very busy and also try the Seafood Shack.
Response
We're glad that you enjoyed your stay with us and were able to enjoy all the village has to offer over your three days.Thank you too for the compliments on the breakfasts. We second your recommendation for the Seafood Shack (they have a cookbook which gives recipes for their regular menu items as well as a lot of information about Ullapool and the fishermen that supply them).

We stayed for 2 nights and had a great time. Micheal and Maureen made us feel very welcome and went out of their way to make us and our dog feel at home. The room we had was a decent size, comfortable and clean. The breakfast was amazing and all home made, we even managed to enjoy the garden and the amazing views of the Loch. We had a very lovely stay at The Sheilings. We had booked in 6 nights. We were greeted warmly by the hosts, Maureen and Michael, on our arrival and that friendliness, ready to assist with anything, continued throughout the stay. Our bedroom had every thing you needed, was comfortable and impeccably clean.Breakfast was a real highlight -with a lovely menu of choices, fresh berries, full cooked breakfasts and home made products including Lorn/ flat sausages. Smoked Salmon and scrambled egg was one of our favourites. As you ate your breakfast you could look over the beautiful Loch Broom. The guest House is 5 mins walk into town.

Lovely guesthouse. Was struggling to find somewhere to stay in Ullapool as everywhere was fully booked. I contacted the Sheiling guesthouse as I was trying to book online and wanted to confirm room would accommodate us both and 11 year old son. I spoke to Maureen who was able to change things to fit us in. The room and bathroom were clean and the bed was comfy. This accommodation has amazing views and you can enjoy this from the garden where you can sit. Then there was the breakfast which was brilliant!!. Highly recommended!!!

We were allowed to use a wonderful garden with an overwhelming view on the lovely Scottish countryside. The breakfast was great and offered in a room overlooking the garden. The house is only 10 minutes away from the centre of Ullapool so one can leave his car at the B&B's private car park. They are also very pet friendly despite of the fact that our dog wanted to run towards them saying hello at our arrival.Thank you very much for that great time we could spend in your house.Kind regards,Angela, Rainer and Maggie.

My friend and I had a one night stay at the Sheiling, a very warm welcome and our room was lovely, over looking the water.Breakfast was amazing so much choice, fresh fruit salad, granola, porridge, cooked breakfast, including gluten free choices. All freshly cooked and hot.I haven’t given a five star as the shower in our room could have been a lot better, not much power there, but other than that I would highly recommend a stay.

We so enjoyed our stay at the Sheiling. The new owners Michael and Maureen made us so very welcome, went that extra mile to make our stay special. Accommodation is great, spotlessly clean, modern, the perfect picture-postcard setting on the Shores of Loch Broom, a very welcoming lounge for relaxing and looking over the Loch, and admiring the view also form the breakfast room. Can’tpraise this place enough as it simply was just so perfect for us. Would highly recommend especially as it’s a perfect spot for touring around the local areas.

Lovely comfortable house, with very good rooms with en suite facilities. The sitting room (with warming log fire) and dining room both have superb views over Loch Broom. It is a friendly house, the breakfast is superb, and dietary requirements are accommodated smoothly. We highly recommend the Sheiling to others.

Reviewer: Mrs. S | Sun 13th Aug 2017 | 7 years ago
The first room we were shown to only had a hand held shower and bath, so the owner, when asked, kindly moved us downstairs to a room with a shower cubicle. The room was large, light and pleasant. The bed wasn't the best we'd slept in on our travels and the radiator didn't work (which shouldn't have been necessary in August but the weather was a bit bleak!) otherwise it would have been 5 stars. The breakfast was really good in a lovely dining room with a stunning view of the loch.

A lovely guest house on the shore of Loch Broom. We only stayed for one night but were given a warm welcome and a very spacious room. Having travelled several hundred miles, on a motorcycle, by the time we reached Ullapool we were delighted to find the Guest House had it's own sauna. There is a small charge for this but it's excellent value for money.Only a 5 minute walk to the village centre/harbour.The breakfast room looks out over the Loch and there was plenty of variety on the menu.

The room and the guesthouse itself were very nice. The room was quite big, it included tea, coffee, hot chocolate. Downstairs there was a living room available for guests to relax in, play games, etc. There was a great view from our room. The breakfast was also fine, it included some nice homemade jam. It's not the cheapest place in the world, but if you want a very nice guesthouse then we would definitely recommend it.

We only stayed at Sheiling House overnight but it was a very nice B and B and good stop after a long day. Very comfortable. We really didn't see our hosts much just at our arrival and at breakfast briefly but they were nice. Ullapool has good music and some of the best seafood I've ever had. It is a very nice village, I wish we could have stayed longer.

I loved the Sheiling. It was absolutely spotless. I have never stayed anywhere as clean (including some very high profile hotels). The only downside is it's a bit dated but that shouldn't stop anyone staying here. Book this B&B!! Also the view is stunning and the propriorters are great hosts.

This was our second visit to The Sheiling Guesthouse. Our room was spacious, the beds were very comfortable and attention had been paid to the smallest of details. The views of the loch and mountains through the panoramic windows and from the garden sloping down to the water is breathtaking. Breakfast was delicious. If we are in the area again, then we shall certainly come back.

We stayed at the Sheiling overnight before travelling from Ullapool to Stornoway on the ferry, and found the establishment to be impeccable! Our room was spacious, clean and well appointed. It was especially well positioned on the ground floor as we had a dog travelling with us. The owners were very accommodating when it came to welcoming dog owners, for which we were really grateful! The views from the Sheiling and its gardens were magnificent, and the breakfast superb! We would certainly stay at The Sheiling again in the future!

The Sheiling was a bit difficult to find after sunset, but the place was worth every effort. We came very late due to the wonderful landscape all around Ullapool, but they welcomed us in a most easy and friendly way. Breakfast with fine sea views over the loch to the opposite slopes was very good and the rooms comfortable enough. They also shared freely their excellent tips for dinner (The Arch Inn) and places to go to (Handa Island, the coast road from Kylesku). They'd even had a sauna, but (sadly) we had no time for that! We'd be happy to return some day soon.

The accommodation was spotless and modern and the breakfasts excellent. I made a point of choosing a different breakfast main course each day, as I never get the chance of smoked salmon or smoked haddock at home, or in many other guesthouses or hotels. Lesley and Iain made us very welcome and my wife and myself enjoyed our three night stay.

The Sheiling is an excellent guesthouse in a superb lochside location. Our room was tastefully furnished and was both comfortable and cosy, as was the guest lounge. We were made very welcome and enjoyed a hearty breakfast which set us up for the rest of the day - we didn't need to eat again until evening! Our only regret was that we weren't able to stay longer, but we certainly will next time! Thank you Lesley and Ian for the warmth of your hospitality - and the welcome sherry, a lovely touch!

Stayed here after travelling on the Stornoway ferry before our onward long journey. Extremely good and well equipped guest house. Owners very welcoming and provided lots of useful information. Room spotlessly clean but contained everything required, crisp white bed linen and towels, good lighting and a very comfortable bed! There was even a hot water bottle supplied! Breakfast was plentiful and well cooked and presented and included home made marmalade and fresh butter (no packets!!) The views were stunning from the back of the house directly onto the loch. Excellent value for money and will definitely stay again.

Great b&b. Good location, breakfast was yummy. Host were very nice. Only complaint is hard mattress and pillow. However every place I've stayed at in Scotland and Ireland are the same. I don't understand why all mattresses and pillows are so hard, guess it's a cultural thing.

We so loved the Sheiling: the welcome we received, the lovely, comfortable room, the glass of sherry in the garden overlooking the water, and the fabulous breakfast inc homemade marmelade. How Lesley managed the clear blue sky and Mediterranean temperatures is a mystery but what a bonus! Thank you for a wonderful stay.

A warm welcome awaited us after departing the nearby ferry. My friend and I are motorcyclists and were touring the highlands and Hebrides. A two night stop in Stornaway at The Sheiling turned out to be a great choice. Comfortable, clean rooms, a great location with a stunning view out to the bay. A friendly, knowledgable proprietor that went out of his way to ensure our stay was first class. A wonderful location overlooking Loch Broom. Very comfortable room and thoughtful extras (decanter of sherry, fresh milk, use of fridge) all very welcome. The only "complaint" is that the walls are rather thin and we could hear our neighbour`s late night ablutions!!

The Sheiling Guesthouse was lovely. In a pretty position on the edge of the Loch and the town was within walking distance. It was a very clean, modern and comfortable house and breakfast was very good. However, the bed was very squeaky and you could not turn over without it making a noise, which caused a very disturbed night's sleep. Also felt that the owners, although they provided, good food and accommodation, they came across as rather unfriendly and disinterested in us.Maybe it was because we only stayed one night ?
